Who We Are
Our website address is: https://anglerstories.com
AnglerStories is a non-commercial blog run by fishing enthusiasts based in China. We share fishing tips, fishing locations, angler news, and related content for foreigners living in or visiting China. We do not require registration, login, or membership to access our content.
What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It
We collect very limited personal data. Our website does not collect sensitive personal information (such as government IDs, financial account details, precise geolocation, biometric data, or health information).
Comments (If Enabled)
If you leave a comment on our site, we collect:
The data shown in the comments form (name, email address, website — if you choose to provide them)
The visitor’s IP address
Browser user agent string (to help spam detection)
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture (if available) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Note: We encourage you to avoid leaving comments if you are concerned about privacy. You can also use a nickname instead of your real name.
Media (User Uploads)
If you upload images to our website, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
This is especially important for protecting the privacy of specific fishing spots in China, which we care deeply about as fellow anglers.
Contact Forms
If you contact us via the contact form or email, we will receive your email address and any information you choose to include in your message. We use this information only to respond to your fishing-related questions. We do not add you to any mailing list or share your information with third parties.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you do not wish to use cookies, you can disable them in your browser settings.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos from YouTube, images from Flickr, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website. We have no control over the privacy practices of these third-party platforms.
Analytics
We may use basic analytics tools (such as Google Analytics or similar) to understand general traffic patterns — for example, which articles are most popular or which countries our visitors come from. These tools do not collect personally identifiable information, and we do not track individual users across other websites.
If you prefer to opt out of Google Analytics, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
How Long We Retain Your Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For contact form inquiries, we retain messages for a reasonable period (typically up to one year) to respond to follow-up questions, after which they are deleted.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have left comments on our site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
To exercise these rights, please contact us via the email or contact form on our website.
Where We Send Your Data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (e.g., Akismet or similar). These services may receive the comment data, IP address, and email address for spam filtering purposes.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.
Children’s Privacy
Our website is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us, and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
