The Morning Preparation and Fishing Spot Situation
I got up at 6 a.m., had a simple breakfast with my elder brother, and then headed to my “base camp”-Yaodang in Xiangyang Village. As soon as I arrived, I noticed the water level was dropping every day. Ugh, that’s a bad sign for big fish! I remembered watching Li Damao’s videos-when the water level drops, fish become super hard to catch. You have to use long rods to fish far and find deep water areas because fish follow the water, right?
I’d been looking forward to this two-day break for ages, so even if the conditions weren’t perfect, I wasn’t leaving empty-handed. At least this spot is familiar; I won’t get skunked like I might at some random place. Alright, enough chit-chat-let’s set up and start fishing! Check out the scenery here, it’s awesome!

Fishing with My Elder Brother and the On-Site Fun
It’s been ages since my elder brother and I fished together, so I was determined to do well this time. He was walking ahead, scrolling TikTok on his phone and carrying the fish basket, while I followed behind with my bag, sneaking photos for this blog post. I know my writing skills aren’t great, so fellow anglers, don’t judge too harshly! But I still wanted to join this activity-no matter how busy I am, I’ll keep at it.
The countryside road was beautiful, like a field of hope. I just knew the fish were waiting for me!

My Dogs Guarding the Spot (and My Bike!)
My two local dogs, Huang Mao, were my “bodyguards” today. I parked my electric bike, and Huang Mao stayed by it the whole time, checking on my catch every now and then. I never let them down-when I get home, I always give them treats. Oh, and the spot is near a cemetery; most people wouldn’t dare stay long here, but I’ve been here at night (though I don’t dare stay past 12 alone!). But hey, for fishing, I’ll brave it!

Fishing Process: Small Fish Frenzy with Big Fish King Bait!
I mixed the Big Fish King fishy-scented bait with bottom nest bait first-letting it “wake up” while I set up my gear. I adjusted the float to 6 eyes and fished 2-3 eyes off the bottom, then started casting frequently to gather fish. On the third cast, I felt a strong tug-boom, a small fish bit! That’s a good sign, right? Where there are small fish, big ones might be nearby.
And wow, the Big Fish King bait worked like a charm! I kept catching small fish one after another-even double hooks sometimes: small bass, wheat ears, bitterlings, tiny crucian carp… Then a bigger bass came along, maybe 2-3 liang (100-150g)-score! The 7.2m long rod didn’t get much action, just a big bream, but the short rods were non-stop. Super satisfying!

Huang Mao even came over to check my catch-probably thinking about the fish treats I’d give them later. My other dog was locked at home; last time I brought it, it ate all my bait! Can you believe that? Now I know better than to bring it along when I’m fishing.

New Gear and Future Plans
I just got some new gear-“Kuang Yao Ji” bait, which I can’t wait to test next time! I’ve also been tying a bunch of leader hooks at home to fill up my leader box. For big fish, I’ll use corn and wheat kernels on long rods-every angler dreams of catching a monster, right? I’m no exception!

Post-Fishing Life: Happy Times with My Wife
On September 1st, I had lotus root soup when I got home. My wife cooked all the meals during my two-day break-total happiness for an angler! But shhh, you have to keep your wife happy if you want to keep fishing. She’s the real MVP here.

By the way, my wife is amazing at cleaning and frying fish-she’s a pro now, thanks to my “training”! Life doesn’t get better than this: fishing with good bait, catching fish, and coming home to a delicious meal.
To all fellow anglers: I hope you all catch big fish and fill your baskets every time you go out! And don’t forget to thank your families for supporting your fishing hobby-they’re the unsung heroes!
