Hangzhou Fishing Spot: Mobile Semi-Aquaculture Fish Farm

Discover Hangzhou’s Hidden Fishing Gem: Mobile Semi-Aquaculture Fish Farm

Last weekend, I finally got to check out the Mobile Semi-Aquaculture Fish Farm in Hangzhou-something I’d been curious about since a local angler friend recommended it. Tucked away in Xita Village, Yuhang Street, Yuhang District, this small-scale spot felt like a breath of fresh air compared to the crowded commercial fisheries I usually visit. If you’re into casual fishing with a focus on quality catches, keep reading-this might be your new go-to spot near Hangzhou.

Location & First Impressions

Finding the farm was easier than I expected. It’s about a 40-minute drive from downtown Hangzhou, and the roads are well-paved all the way to Xita Village. The farm itself is a 2-acre (roughly 8,00 square feet) pond, and as soon as I pulled up, I noticed how peaceful it was-no loud music, no crowds, just the sound of birds and water. The owner mentioned it’s a family-owned pond that’s rarely fished, which immediately made me excited about the catch potential.

Fish Stock & Water Conditions

What stood out here was the mix of fish: the owner said there are 200–300 pounds of native pond crucian carp (these are the real gems, since they’re not farm-raised for quick growth) plus 400 pounds of farmed crucian carp, plus a few other species like small catfish or perch thrown in for good measure. The water depth is only 0.7 meters (about 2.3 feet), which is shallower than most fisheries, but that means the fish are more active and easier to spot on sunny days. I could even see small schools of crucian carp darting near the surface when I first arrived!

Fishing Rules & Tips

The rules here are simple but important to follow:

  • 200 RMB per day (about $28 USD)-cash is preferred, but they accept WeChat Pay too.
  • Book in advance! The owner limits the number of anglers to keep the experience relaxed, so shoot them a message a day or two before.
  • No hand-thrown bait (they call it “hand casting nests”)-you have to use a bait feeder or stick to regular hooks. This keeps the water clean and the fish from getting spooked.
  • One rod per person-no multiple rods, which is fair for a small pond.
  • Rod length is unlimited! I used a 3.6-meter rod, but I saw a guy with a 5.4-meter one catching big crucian carp too.

My Personal Fishing Experience

I arrived around 8 AM on a Saturday, set up my rod with some sweet corn (the owner recommended it for crucian carp), and within 15 minutes, I had my first bite! It was a small native crucian carp, about 10 cm long, but it fought hard-way more than the farmed ones I’ve caught before. By midday, I’d landed 8 more: 5 native crucian carp (around 150 grams each) and 3 farmed ones (bigger, up to 300 grams). The owner even gave me a free bottle of water and a small bucket to keep my catch fresh, which was a nice touch.

One thing to note: since the water is shallow, the fish get spooked easily if you make too much noise. I saw a group of guys talking loudly and moving around a lot-they didn’t catch nearly as much as I did. So tip: keep it quiet, move slowly, and stick to natural baits.

Why This Spot Stands Out

What makes the Mobile Semi-Aquaculture Fish Farm different from other Hangzhou fishing spots? For one, it’s not overfished-since it’s family-owned and rarely used, the fish are more willing to bite. Second, the mix of native and farmed fish gives you a chance to catch both “wild” and “farmed” varieties, which is fun for comparing taste and fight. Third, the owner is super friendly-he even gave me a tip about using a smaller hook (size 4) for the native crucian carp, which made a huge difference in my catch rate.

Before I left, I asked the owner if they plan to add more fish soon, and he said he’s thinking about adding some grass carp in the next month. I’m already planning my next trip-maybe I’ll bring a friend and try to catch one of those!
