Jiujiang Fishing Spots: Honghu Farm – A Top Angler’s Retreat in Jiangxi

Discover Jiujiang Fishing Spots: My Day at Honghu Farm

As an avid angler who’s explored fishing spots across eastern China, I’ve learned that the best finds often hide in small, scenic villages. Recently, I set out to check out Honghu Farm, a fishing destination I’d heard whispers about in Jiujiang’s lake country. What I found exceeded every expectation—here’s my firsthand experience.

Getting to Honghu Farm: Location & Accessibility

Nestled in Shuangzhong Town, Hukou County (part of the larger Jiujiang region), Honghu Farm sits right on the edge of Honghu Village. The drive from downtown Jiujiang took just over an hour, with well-paved roads leading straight to the entrance. If you’re taking public transport, buses from Jiujiang Bus Station drop you 10 minutes from the farm, and the staff even offers a quick pickup service—total game-changer for solo anglers like me.

Once I parked, I noticed the clear signage and a small reception area where I checked in. The staff were friendly, handed me a map of the fishing zones, and even gave a quick tip about the best spots for carp (my go-to catch).

Fishing at Honghu Farm: What to Expect

Facilities & Environment

The farm spans 100 acres, with calm, crystal-clear water that’s a far cry from the murky spots I’ve fished elsewhere. The depth averages 2 meters, which is perfect for both beginners (easy to cast without snagging) and seasoned anglers (plenty of space to maneuver). The shoreline is lined with willow trees, so there’s shade even on sunny afternoons—critical for staying comfortable during long sessions.

Basic amenities include clean restrooms, a small snack bar selling cold drinks and packed lunches, and designated areas for cleaning your catch. I appreciated the wooden benches scattered along the shore; they’re sturdy enough to hold tackle boxes and keep your gear off the damp ground.

Fish Species & Catch Rates

Honghu Farm specializes in the “Four Major Chinese Carps” (grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp, and black carp)—the mainstays of freshwater fishing in China. I targeted grass carp with a sweet corn bait, and within 30 minutes, I had my first bite. The fight was thrilling—these fish are strong, and the 2-meter depth gave them plenty of room to run. Over the day, I landed 4 carp, plus a surprise bighead carp that put up a 10-minute battle.

Other anglers I chatted with reported catching catfish and tilapia too, so there’s variety if you want to switch up your bait. The farm doesn’t stock “easy catches” either—these are wild-feeding fish, so you’ll need to use proper techniques (the staff can recommend bait if you’re unsure).

Fees & Value

The pricing is straightforward: 10 yuan per kilogram of fish you keep. There’s no entry fee or hourly charge, which makes it budget-friendly for a full day of fishing. I kept 3 of my catches (about 6 kilograms total) and paid 60 yuan—way cheaper than most commercial fishing spots in the region. If you prefer to release, there’s no cost at all, and the staff encourages catch-and-release for smaller fish to keep the population healthy.

Pro Tips for Visiting Honghu Farm

  • Arrive early (around 7 AM) to claim a shaded spot—popular zones fill up fast on weekends.
  • Bring sunscreen and a hat; the open water reflects sunlight, and shade is limited in some areas.
  • Try sweet corn or fermented rice as bait for carp—they’re local favorites and work consistently.
  • Book the pickup service if you’re taking public transport (call the farm a day in advance).
  • Pack a cooler if you plan to take your catch home; the farm has ice available for purchase.

By the end of the day, I left Honghu Farm with a cooler full of fish and a smile. What stood out most wasn’t just the great fishing—it was the peaceful environment and friendly staff. Unlike crowded urban fishing spots, this place feels like a hidden gem where you can truly unwind. I’m already planning my next trip with friends, and I’ve recommended it to everyone in my angling group. If you’re in Jiujiang and love freshwater fishing, Honghu Farm should be at the top of your list.
