Why Fishing Is My Go-To Escape from Life’s Chaos

Let’s be real—life can feel like a total mess sometimes. Society’s complicated, people’s minds are a maze, and even the environment’s throwing curveballs left and right. I used to get stuck overthinking all this stuff, but then I realized: why mope around when I can grab a fishing rod? For me, nothing beats fishing when I need to unwind. It’s like my personal stress reliever—no overthinking, no drama, just me, the water, and the quiet hope of a bite.

When I’m out there, it’s like my mind paints this perfect little picture. I don’t care who’s watching or what anyone thinks; it’s just me and the moment. Fish come and go, but being out there, part of that little circle of nature—whether I’m alone or with someone—feels right. It’s like I’m looking through the water, seeing past all the noise, and remembering what’s simple and good. Even when I’m dreaming about fishing, I wake up clear-headed, ready to head straight to my favorite spot.

Balancing Hobbies, Chores, and Keeping the Peace at Home

Fishing’s my favorite hobby, but let’s not forget—chores are non-negotiable. Life doesn’t owe us anything, right? No task is “supposed” to be someone’s job. If you want a happy marriage and a peaceful home, both people have to put in the work. Yeah, there’s always that whole “gender roles” thing floating around, but honestly? That’s just something each couple figures out for themselves. Most problems aren’t black and white—like when kids fight, there’s no absolute right or wrong. So as a guy, I try to do a little extra around the house. Wait, does that sound like I’m bragging? Maybe a tiny bit, but hey, it keeps things smooth!

A Spontaneous Fishing Trip with a Friend—No More Lone Walks!

Today, I finished all my chores, ate lunch, and then my friend hit me up: “Wanna go fishing for a bit?” Uh, duh—of course I said yes! It felt so good to just go without overthinking. The streets were pretty, the river looked amazing, and the trees lined the road like they were there to welcome us. Even if we didn’t catch anything, I knew I’d be happy just being out there. Oh, and since we’re still being careful with masks, we walked to the spot—usually I do this alone, but having a friend along made the walk fly by. No more boring silences!

Old Spot, Old Gear, Old Red Worms—Fingers Crossed for a Good Catch

We got to the spot, grabbed our rods, and got set up fast. It was my usual fishing spot, with my usual gear, and my go-to bait: red worms. Everything felt familiar—same routine, same smell, same rhythm. I thought, “If it’s all the same, maybe the fish will be the same too?” My friend was patient, waiting for that first bite just like me. We cast our lines, and then…

First Bite! A Big Crucian Carp (My Personal Best Here)

Ten minutes in, bam! I felt a tug, and reeled in a big crucian carp—probably over half a pound! That’s the biggest one I’ve ever caught at this spot. I was stoked! I quickly rebaited and cast again, making sure my line landed right where I wanted it, and pressed the line down to cut through the wind. Back to waiting, but now with a little more excitement.

My Friend’s Turn: A Red-Eyed Fish (Small but Perfect for the Season)

My friend wasn’t gonna let me have all the fun. Soon, he reeled in his first catch—a red-eyed fish! It wasn’t huge, but hey, in this season, any catch is a win. He even let it stay in the water for a second to feel the fight—classic angler move, right?

Switching Spots Pays Off—My Friend Regrets Not Following Me

From 2:48 PM to 3:13 PM, we only caught three fish total. My friend was still stuck on that one red-eyed fish, and we tried changing up our tactics to get more bites, but nothing was working. I got impatient, so I decided to move to my old standby spot nearby. My friend said he’d stick it out where he was—his loss!

The Fish Start Biting—And I Can’t Stop (Sorry, Friend!)

At the new spot, I caught my second fish right away. I yelled over to my friend to come join me, but he said he wanted to keep trying. So I grabbed my bucket and settled in. Let me tell you—those fish were biting like crazy! I made up a little rhyme to pass the time:

    • One fish, two fish, three fish—oops, some got away!
    • Cast once, cast twice, cast again—each time, a fish leaps like a leaf!
    • Hook with red worm, hook with care—each time, a fish takes the bait!
    • Reel once, reel twice, reel again—each time, a fish lands in my bucket!

Seriously, if someone asked me what happiness is? It’s being able to fish. What’s even happier? Having time to fish and actually catching something—bonus points if it’s a full bucket!

My Friend Caves and Joins Me—He Finally Catches a Big One Too

All those fish I was reeling in must’ve tempted my friend, because he finally gave up and came over. Sure enough, he caught a big crucian carp too! Time flew by—we’d agreed to head back at 4:30 PM since he had stuff to do. Even though the fish were still biting, we had to pack up. It was hard to leave, but all good things end eventually, right?

Heading Home with a Bucket of Fish—Today Was a Win

We packed up our gear and walked back together. Having a friend to share the day with—laughing, complaining about missed bites, celebrating catches—was so much better than going alone. When I got home, I dumped the fish into a basin and took a full photo of them. Not bad for a few hours, huh?

Oh, and before I wrap this up—here’s a little wish from me: I hope you all have a happy life, get to go fishing whenever you want, and always come home safe. If you ever need a fishing buddy, hit me up (just don’t blame me if I outfish you!).
