Fishing with Shrimp Powder from Fishing Home: Wearing Old Clothes, Using New Gear, First Spring Fishing Adventure

The Long-Awaited First Cast (Finally!)

Let me set the scene: I’d been hoarding gear for months. Bought earthworms and Fishing Home shrimp powder early on, snagged a Twin Dragon Crucian rod during a sale, and splurged on an 8.1-meter long rod—all for a big fishing spree. But life had other plans. From October last year to now? Meetings, long business trips, then getting sick at home, and winter rolled in. This was my first time casting a line in over five months. Talk about a buildup!

Car Woes vs. Bus Adventures (Spoiler: Buses Won This Time)

Here’s the funny twist: I used to take taxis to fish because I didn’t have a car. Now I’ve got a car (after a lottery system in my city), but I’m terrified to drive it to fishing spots. Why? Two big reasons:

  • My driving skills are still pretty rough—let’s be real, I’m a nervous wreck behind the wheel.
  • Parking is a nightmare. I once almost got into my neighborhood, and someone sideswiped me! Total chaos, but luckily it was their fault. Phew.

First Time Taking the Bus Fishing (Yes, Really)

So I bailed on the car and hopped on a bus. Grabbed my never-been-in-water rods, packed the Fishing Home shrimp powder I’d been dying to test, and threw on a shirt and jeans I was this close to tossing out. Old clothes, new gear—sounded like a recipe for something, right? Maybe a surprise? Let’s be honest, though: I didn’t expect to catch anything. But I daydreamed a little—maybe a quiet spot with nonstop bites, even though I left at 2 PM (late for fishing, I know).

Oops! Forgot the Bucket (Classic Newbie Move)

Got to the spot and realized my huge mistake: I left the bait bucket at home. The shore was way too far from the water, and there was no one around to borrow from. So I improvised: used half an earthworm, dipped it in some rice wine bait, and called that my “bait + chum” combo. Waited 40 minutes—nothing. Then two passersby stopped to ask if I had any bites. Just then, the wind picked up. I saw a tiny dip in the float… and reeled in… a snail. Yep. A snail. So technically, I had a bite, but still a “blank day” (no fish). Bummer.

The Wind Won (Time to Pack Up)

Wind got stronger, people left, and I had a bus to catch home. So I packed up. Let’s count the stats, just for fun:

  • Earthworms used: Half a one
  • Rice wine bait used: ~120 grains
  • Rod lifts: 42 times
  • Bites: 1 (the snail)
  • Catch: 1 snail (released, obviously—no one keeps snails)

Surprise: Bus Fishing Was Actually Nice

Walking back to the bus stop, I was surprisingly chill. Who knew taking the bus fishing could be fun? I got to check out the scenery along the way. Don’t get me wrong—Beijing has its ups and downs. The traffic is brutal, and sometimes you see people peeing under bridges (total buzzkill). But hey, the bus stops? They’re pretty advanced, way better than some places I’ve seen. And that construction project blocking the road? It’s been going on for over a year. No clue what it is, but hey—compared to Europe or the US where projects take decades, we’re moving fast. Silver linings, right?

Busy Spring Ahead (No More Fishing for Now)

Turns out, it’s not quite fishing season yet—at least not for a newbie like me. I’ll wait a bit. But guess what? Next week I’m swamped: Zhejiang first, then Jiangsu and Henan, maybe Shanghai and Anhui too. That’s until the end of the month. April’s already booked solid. Busy, busy spring. Even though I didn’t catch a fish, getting away from Beijing’s traffic and cold wind for a few hours? Not a bad trade-off.

Final Thoughts (No Fish, But Good Memories)

So that’s my first spring fishing trip with Fishing Home shrimp powder—wearing old clothes, using new gear, taking the bus, and catching a snail. Not exactly the “big catch” I dreamed of, but it was nice to get out. Maybe next time I’ll remember the bucket, drive (if I’m brave enough), and actually use that shrimp powder. Until then, I’ll just stare at my new rods and count down to the next free weekend. Who knows—maybe the next trip will be the one with the nonstop bites I daydreamed about. Fingers crossed!
